Philosophy of Microbiology

In addition to the philosophy and objectives of the university with a vision to become a centre of academic excellence through teaching and research activities responsible to communal and globalized human needs, the purpose of B.Sc. (Microbiology) degree programme is to produce competent Professional Microbiologist by familiarizing students with the basic theoretical and practical tools and techniques required for excellent performance in their future practice.

The vision of the department is to become one of the best Microbiology Departments in any Nigerian University with national and international acclaim. A department where the advancement of Microbiology and technology is continuously dynamic. Its graduate will become very capable and environmental-friendly Microbiologist who would be very relevant in the public and private sectors of the economy and rapid industrialization and development of Nigeria.

Introduction

Medical parasitology traditionally has included the study of three major groups of animals: parasitic protozoa, parasitic helminths (worms), and those arthropods that directly cause disease or act as vectors of various pathogens.

Course Aim

The aim of this course is to update your knowledge and skills in safety practices as you apply the principles of microorganisms control in health care delivery. Your appreciation of the context of infection control should also drive your urge for standard practice and quality assurance for safe health care environment.

Course Objectives

At the completion of this course, you will be able to: Apply the knowledge, skills and attitude acquired in this course in achieving infection control in clinical practice and in providing safe and quality care while adopting standard measures for infection control in care of patients with different types of diseases
